Family

Born to an attorney and teacher on Christmas Day, 1980, Jonathan Lane Johnson was immersed in the law from an early age. Jonathan grew up in Moss Bluff, Louisiana with his older sister Anna-Catherine, younger brother Adam, and younger sister Sarabeth.

His father, Terry Johnson, was the first in his family to go to college, graduating from McNeese State and LSU Law before embarking on a 40-year legal career. Terry started a private practice in 1980 and in 2015, sold the firm to his sons Jonathan and Adam.

Education

Jonathan excelled in school, aspiring to be a lawyer from an early age. Jonathan attended Sam Houston High School, where he lettered in tennis and basketball, was a member of the Student Council and Beta Club, and graduated with honors.

From Moss Bluff to Baton Rouge: Jonathan attended LSU, where he graduated in 3.5 years with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Upon graduating, he stayed in Baton Rouge to earn a Juris Doctorate and Bachelor of Civil Law at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center.

CAREER

Jonathan’s extensive legal career began in 2006 with his position as 14th Judicial District Clerk under the Honorable Robert Wyatt. In 2007, Jonathan signed as an associate at his father’s firm, Johnson & Vercher, LLC in Lake Charles where he handled personal injury, Louisiana family law, and Louisiana criminal defense cases.

Following Adam Johnson’s admittance as an associate, in 2016 the brothers bought and renamed the distinguished Johnson & Vercher to The Johnson Firm, setting forth on an extensive growth track to become the premier firm in Southwest Louisiana in personal injury, family law, and criminal defense. In Lake Charles, Jonathan Johnson helped forge a reputation for diligent work, exceptional client relationships, and relentless representation that continues today.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS, AWARDS, & ASSOCIATIONS

Known for his competence and fortitude in defending clients, Jonathan has successfully represented hundreds of clients in family law and personal injury cases. He won a $2 million verdict for his client in a medical malpractice case, and he takes on every case with vigor, unafraid of a challenge.

Jonathan’s work is recognized by clients and peers alike. He was chosen as the Most Outstanding Young Lawyer of 2011 by the Louisiana State Bar Association, a distinction given to just one lawyer each year.

He also won the President's Award from the SWLA Bar Association for his outstanding accomplishments and service, as well as recognition as a Rising Super Star Lawyer in 2012 and 2013, and a Top Lawyer listed in Acadiana Profile Magazine from 2014-2017.

Ever the industrious lawyer, Jonathan Johnson of Lake Charles is a member of several state and national organizations including the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association, of which he is a current member of the local bar and Family Law.

Jonathan’s past involvement includes a Board Member position at the SWLA Bar and the SWLA Young Lawyers Section; a mayor-appointed position in the Lake Charles Downtown Development Association from 2010-2011, and a police jury-appointed position at the SWLA Convention and Visitors Bureau from 2010-2011. He was the President of the SWLA Young Lawyers Section in 2009 and 2010, as well as a Leadership Class Member of the Louisiana State Bar from 2010-2011.

PERSONAL & RELIGIOUS LIFE

Jonathan has been happily married to Hannah Johnson for nine years. A graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, Hannah is a speech pathologist at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital near Lake Charles. The couple has two daughters, Faith Elizabeth and Lyn Elyse.

In their free time, Jonathan and Hannah attend Crossfit classes in Lake Charles, where they have trained and competed for eight years. Jonathan plays several sports, including basketball, tennis, and golf, and enjoys working on his ‘87 K5 Blazer. The couple loves having family time with their daughters and feels fortunate to live close to family. 

The Johnsons are active members at First Baptist Church of Hackberry, where Johnathon also serves as a full-time worship leader. Another faith-based organization in which Hannah and Johnathon actively participate is FaithWalk South Louisiana, an organization where the couple has served and led for years.

Jonathan also participated in South American mission trips where he helped build churches and run medical clinics. He is grateful for these experiences and looks forward to continue making a difference in many people’s lives.
